Conductor Linus Lerner is praised for the charisma and passionate energy that he brings to his musical performances, inspiring performers and transporting audiences. Equally at home on the symphonic podium or in the opera pit, Lerner has conducted groups in the United States, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, the Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico, Spain, South Korea and Turkey.
Lerner is currently Artistic Director for the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra in Tucson, AZ; the Symphony Orchestra of Rio Grande do Norte in Brazil; the Oaxaca Opera Festival in Mexico; and the Gramado in Concert International Music Festival in Brazil. He also serves as a conductor for the Round Top Music Festival Hill in the USA and as a faculty for the Festival of the Gulf in Italy. Previous positions include: Associate Conductor for the Opera in the Ozarks, the Tallahassee Youth Symphony Orchestra and the University of Arizona Philharmonic; Artistic Director and conductor for Bayou City Performing Arts; Beijing Concert Hall Opera Festival and the Southern Arizona Opera Company; Assistant conductor for the Arizona Opera, the Florida State University Symphony Orchestra and Opera, and the University of Arizona Symphony Orchestra.
Recent conducting engagements include: the Symphony Orchestras of Vidin, Pleven, Sliven and the Sofia Sinfonieta in Bulgaria; the Korean Peace Orchestra in South Korea; the Fondi Music Festival Orchestra in Italy; the Antalya Symphony Orchestra in Turkey; the Symphony Orchestras of Tsingtao, Fuzhou, Hunan and the National Film and Radio Orchestra in China; Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra, Arlington Symphony, Garland Symphony Orchestra; Opera in the Heights, Sierra Vista Symphony Orchestra and Miami University Symphony Orchestra in the USA; the Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Symphony orchestras of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosi in Mexico; the Opera Studio of the University of Pernambuco, the Gramado Symphony Orchestra and the Opus Chamber Orchestra in Brazil;
With the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra, Lerner has recently recorded a CD of Tucson’s contemporary composers and, with the Symphony Orchestra of Rio Grande do Norte, a CD of Brazilian composer Tonheca Dantas. Past recordings include 4 four CDs with Reveille Men’s Chorus and 1 one CD with Bayou City Women’s Chorus.
As a clinician, maestro Lerner has worked with various professional and community orchestras and chorus, singers and conductors and is as a major advisor with Placido Domingo and Yo -Yo Ma for El Sistema “La Esperanza Azteca” in Mexico, where he teaches most of the over 100 conductors. Lerner has also sung with various opera companies and orchestras in the USA, Brazil and Europe and has been awarded few prizes in different voice competitions.
Lerner received his Doctor of Music in Orchestral Conducting degree from the University of Arizona, his Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting degree from Florida State University, his Master of Music in Vocal Performance degree from the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati and his Bachelor of Music in Choral Conducting degree from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil.
